Beautiful and dangerous Sandy Beach
Sandy Beach Oahu is one of the most popular beaches on Oahu's famed South Shore, and it's easy to see why. Any day of the week, the beach is swarming with eager surfers, and you could easily spend half a day watching these skilled athletes battle the waves.
The beautiful Sandy Beach
This wide, large beach is well-known for surfing. The beach is former President Barack Obama’s favourite place to body surf. Sandy Beach Park is located in a residential neighbourhood, so there is always plenty of open space. It's about 10 minutes past Hanauma Bay and 40 minutes from Waikiki. There is soft sand on the beach, as well as basic facilities, including public restrooms and cold water showers. Food trucks are also a popular sight on Sandy Beach.
If you’re more into sunbathing and relaxing, this Oahu beach has you covered. Stay until sunset for a spectacular display of colours as the sun dips below the horizon. People don’t just call this Sunset Beach for nothing.
The dangerous Sandy Beach
Because the location is notorious for massive waves, especially during the winter, surfers can't resist the allure of this Oahu beach. It is critical to know that the water at Sandy Beach is not suitable for inexperienced swimmers. The waves can be exceedingly intense, and the rip currents can be extremely dangerous for inexperienced surfers and bodyboarders. During the warmer summer months, the sea is quieter. Remember, if you're unsure, don't go out.
The best time to visit Sandy Beach
The best time to visit Sandy's is largely dependent on the swell and what you want to do there. If you want to go surfing or bodyboarding, make sure the wave is good before you go. If you want to collect shells, make sure there is little to no swell before venturing out.
