Diamond Head Lookout - A Hawaii Renowned Tourist Destination
Diamond Head Lookout is a renowned tourist destination and hiking site. This spot on Oahu beach provides spectacular views of Oahu's southern shore and Waikiki. Because the lookout has such clear views of the surrounding area, it was used as a military post. Along the route, you'll pass by World War II bunkers and underground tunnels. Hikers may see a compass rose at the summit that points out all of the notable landmarks viewable from the top of Diamond Head Lookout.
The Diamond Head Lookout on Diamond Head Road is a great place to relax for a while and enjoy the scenery, whether you walk, run, or drive there. To the east, mansions line the beach out to rugged Black Point, surfers and windsurfers ride the waves below, and sailboats and barges cruise the Pacific in the distance. From this vantage point, humpback whales can be seen breaching, spouting, and playing off the coast from December to May. On the cliff's edge, there's even a working lighthouse.

Oahu's most popular hike is the Diamond Head Summit trail, and for good reason. Even though it's a steep climb, this short hike begins in the Diamond Head crater's middle and ends at the rim's highest point, where you'll find panoramic views of the island. Diamond Head State Monument includes the crater's interior and exterior slopes, totalling over 475 acres. Once on top, you can climb up to the top of the bunkers for 360-degree views of the island and the Pacific Ocean, with Waikiki not too far away.
