A slower-paced version of Oahu may be found on the Oahu windward coast or eastern shore, which also has some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Hawaii. Most of the time, the wind and weather that we experience in Hawaii come from the east/northeast. This little fact explains why the eastern shore of every Hawaiian island is referred to as the Windward side of the island. It also explains why the windward side of Oahu is so lush and beautiful.

Waimea is a small, rural area that is located between the Koolau mountain range and Waimanalo Bay on Oahu's eastern side.
